'The Guardians' Fiction

Prologue And so it begins...
Chapter One: Yin and Yantra The lust for power is strong in the hearts and minds of both sides of the circle, with the potential to destroy everything the Guardian has fought for. What will happen when humans are involved again for the first time in millennia to further complicate the situation?
Chapter Two: Myths and Legendaries The proverbial wheel has started rolling... and amidst the mess of rumours and truth, a man and his son go searching for evidence of both. But are Dirk's motives as purely unselfish as he'd like them to be?
Chapter Three: Thunder and Lightning Reflexes A decision is made, which seals the fate of two and irreparably changes the future of another - but not in the way that anyone expected. All that remains is the choice between fighting or fleeing; will Kris eventually be given the chance to fight or will he be forced to flee the memories forever?
Chapter Four: Curses and Worse Guardian vs. Guardian! Everyone must pay for their sins eventually... or do they? When life is nothing but a game for some and an unending struggle to simply survive for others, what happens when they meet up and go head to head. Who will protect Minami against the rogue player of the Game of Time?
Chapter Five: Rest and Retribution Rest for some, and the promise of a new future. For others, the future is set in stone already. But the many paths towards the future, however, are not. Will it take the power of time and space to win against this new foe, intent only on corruption, or could it be possible that vanquishing the foe-with-a-dozen-names will need every power which exists?
Chapter Six: Corruption and Calculations Reluctant to give up the battle, the foe is caught by surprise; releasing another player into the Game of Time. Alliances are made, but how temporary will they be? Plans are made when instantaneous actions prove to be dangerous. Should those plans be fruitful, however, Minami will be in far more danger than anyone could know.
Chapter Seven: Aura and Anger The foe makes its first calculated move in the Game. Now it is up to the Guardians to plan out their retaliation as unwilling pawns are set into motion.
Chapter Eight: Love and Hate The enemy may have won the battle, but has it truly won the war? In the Game of Time, nothing is simple; especially when its players drop out and reappear just as surprisingly. When will it end? Or will it never end, a continual struggle of forces and powers through time and space?
Chapter Nine: Untitled The battle draws to a close as each move is played, hopefully trumping the previous... until the final trick which may very well change the fate of both glitches and Guardians. Now the Guardians must come up with a solution to the wartorn lands of their battle. But perhaps not all problems have solutions...

N.B: In this story, I try to use a different formatting style for all the different kinds of speech found from both humans and Pokémon:

  • Human speech: "Text" (normal speech formatting used in prose)
  • Human thought: Thought (sometimes using italics for thoughts is frowned upon, but I use it pretty much all the time for ease of reading within paragraphs)
  • Pokémon speech:
    1. Natural voice box noises (e.g. "Fllrrr.") is in normal speech quotation marks without any special formatting.
    2. Translated speech in order for their humans to understand them will be used within quotation marks and italicised. For example, "I'm a Pokémon. This is my human Commander, and-"
    3. Pokémon telepathy will be merely used within separate quotation symbols (e.g. the < and the >, without the need for italicisation. For example, <Fool! You dare to... dare to trap me?! You wish to own me? Do you also wish to die slowly?> (On a side note: Pokémon who use telepathy may subconsciously alternate at random between mouth and mind speech even within the same sentence.)
  • Pokémon thought: italicised without any other indication. E.g. I turn in fury at the tainted touch, snarling at the terrified creature before me.
  • Guardian speech: similar in formatting to Pokémon thought. (The Guardian does not use telepathy but makes up for this fact by broadcasting the most public of its thoughts.)
